William Glasgow. Book and cover designer

Bill is lifewriter.ca's book and book cover designer. He also serves as print coordinator, ensuring that the printing and binding processes go smoothly. Bill has more than two decades experience in the field of computer-based publication design. While his portfolio includes a wide variety of print projects — including several dozen posters, brochures, newsletters, and magazines — his passion is designing books, several of which have won awards.

Milk Stories: A History of the Dairy Industry in British Columbia 1827 – 2000 (11 x 9, 374 pages, hard cover, duotones throughout, with index and colour dust jacket) was awarded a certificate of honour from the British Columbia Historical Federation in 2000. High Water: Living with the Fraser Floods (11 x 9, 334 pages, hard cover, duotones throughout, with index and colour dust jacket), won the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for best historical writing in 2006. From Oma’s Kitchen and A Time of Wonder, A Season of Joy (8.5 x 11, 224 pages each, colour images throughout, with index and colour cover) jointly won the Abbotsford Arts Council Literary Arts Award, also in 2006.

More recent books include:

·         Love Game: A Personal History of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club ( 2008, 9 x 9, 224 pages, casebound, colour images throughout, with index and colour dust jacket)
·         Susanne Remembers (2009, 11 x 8.5, 166 pages, casebound, duotones throughout, colour cover)  Winner of the Abbotsford Arts Council Literary Arts Award, 2010.
·         The Chilliwack Story (2007, 11 x 9, 360 pages, casebound, duotones throughout, index, colour dust jacket)
·         Buckerfield: the Story of a Vancouver Family (2011, 10 x 8, 334 pages, casebound, duotones throughout, index, colour cover)

"Without Philip's help, I could never have written and published my memoirs. Not only is the finished product much better than I ever could have imagined, but the whole process was very rewarding. Philip and his team are professional in every sense of the word, and I benefited first hand from his intuitive editing skills - his ability to rearrange a passage with skill and subtlety without sacrificing anything of the narrative. And all done with a lightness and humour that makes working together pure fun.

"He also taught me the satisfaction of discipline and deadlines! Now that the book is completed, there will be a sad silence at 10.00 p.m., when we had most of our working conversations - I'm a night owl and that's my prime time! Thank you, dear Philip!"

- Joyce Bryant, CM, BEM, author of Slender Threads.
