  • hiring a UK researcher to obtain wartime patrol reports and logs from the National Archives. Liaising with the archivist at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Portsmouth
  • researching other published works on wartime submarine service
  • hiring an artist to design maps
  • crafting the existing narratives and archival material into an engaging narrative told in the first person.
  • choosing images and memorabilia and writing captions
  • copyediting, extensive fact-checking, and proofreading
  • obtaining permissions and licences to use copyrighted material
  • contacting military historians to review the manuscript and offer suggestions
  • designing the book and covers
  • hosting a book launch at the Royal BC Museum, Victoria
  • developing promotional posters, a book mark, and media releases
  • creating an ecommerce website to sell the book online
